Surf Life Saving NT is a registered provider of Australian Lifeguard Services - the largest provider of professional lifeguards in Australia. For more detailed information check out the ALS website.
Australian Lifeguard Services has access to extensive resources and a national infrastructure that includes communications networks, specialist rescue services and the provision of nationally accredited training, along with international experts in medicine, equipment and coastal management.
For SLSNT, and Surf Life Saving generally, the cost benefit
offered by Australian Lifeguard Services makes it the provider of
choice. It's services operate harmoniously with the existing
volunteer surf lifesaver network throughout Australia and the
Northern Territory.
In Darwin SLSNT provides a lifeguard services to the Darwin City
Council (Mindil Beach) and Darwin Waterfront Corporation (Darwin
Wave Lagoon). The Mindil Beach lifeguards operate
June-September, Monday-Saturday, with volunteer lifesavers on duty
on Sundays. At the Darwin Wave Lagoon lifeguards are on duty

How do I apply to be a Lifeguard?
Because Lifeguards work in small groups or alone, a high level of fitness and qualification is required.
Essential minimum qualifications:
- SLSA Bronze Medallion & Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue)
- A current First Aid Certificate
- Advanced Resuscitation Certificate
- Heart Defibrillator Certificate
- Spinal Management Certificate
Physical Tests
- Pool Swim - Swim 800 metres in less than 14 minutes.
- Open Water Lifeguard Mission: Continuously Swim 400 metres - Run 800 m - Board Paddle 400 m - Run 800 m in less than 25 minutes.
